The work on the coating production processes aimed to define standard industry Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data. Three processes were identified (waterborne, solvent borne and powder) and sites were selected to have a good European representativity both in age and geography.
The work on the raw materials consisted of building an LCI database for the most common raw materials used in the coatings, printing ink and artists’ colors industry, and make it the recommended database for the Industry. To do so, the raw material suppliers were contacted, existing LCI databases consulted, and models created when necessary, to put together a database covering over 273 raw materials.
