CEPE LCI database and tool updates

A little over a year after its launch, the CEPE Life Cycle Inventory database and Ecofootprint tool have been updated to include 273 raw materials in total, compared to the 225 raw materials previously included. Pigments, tap water, and materials for new sectors are now included.

Your opinion on the Life Cycle Inventory project would be more than appreciated a year after the initial launch. Please fill in the survey to send your feedback!

CEPE members fund students who go for a master in paint chemistry

In order to find a suitable answer to the shortage in academic educated chemists in the coatings industry, CEPE joined forces with a leading institute, ITECH. From next academic year on starting in September 2014, ITECH will be offering its 3-year European Master programme in formulations for the first time in English. And CEPE members decided to fund students who go for a master in paint chemistry

CEPE's involvement in EC-funded project

There is a need in Europe to maximise the use of timber as a sustainable resource within the built environment. For coated components including windows, doors and cladding this requires maximising service life and minimising maintenance costs. The pace of development and potential long life of modern coatings means that real life durability data will not be available when new products are brought to the market place and this creates a risk which affects SME joinery manufacturers and applicators. Ultimately it will also affect the downstream customer and consumers. The SERVOWOOD project will address this issue by developing a service life prediction methodology which can be incorporated into the portfolio of European Standards for exterior wood coatings.
